Anthony Batchelor matriculated in 1984 and completed his BA LLB at the University of Cape Town. He did his articles at Van Niekerk, Groenewoud & Van Zyl in Cape Town and then ceded same to Herbsteins. He was admitted as an Attorney in February 1993 and became a Partner at Herbsteins. After Herbsteins merged with Hofmeyers in 1996, Anthony became a Director at the firm. In 1997 he formed his own law firm specializing in Personal Injury Law. In October 1997, A Batchelor & Associates became an independent law practice in Cape Town with Anthony Batchelor at the helm.
Barry Halliday completed his BA, LLB degree at the University of Cape Town. From 1978 to 1980 he was a public prosecutor at the Wynberg Magistrate's Court. Thereafter he completed his articles at Herbsteins and was admitted as an attorney in 1982. He became a partner / director of Herbsteins in 1983. In 1996 Herbsteins Law firm in Cape Town merged with Hofmeyr Van Der Merwe. In 1998 he became a partner in A Batchelor & Associates. Initially, he was involved in criminal law moving to litigation and personal injury law. He became more involved in personal injury law in 1992 when Herbsteins took over the firm of Molenaar & Trisos, obtaining approximately 650 files which he took over and did the due diligence. This was the beginning of the personal injury practice which was taken over by A Batchelor & Associates in 1997.
Gerda Theron matriculated in 1991. She then studied a B Proc degree at RAU University. Thereafter she did her articles at Anton Myburg Attorneys, which was ceded to Kassel, Sklaar, Cohen Incorporated. She was admitted as an attorney in 1997. From 1997 until 1998 Gerda was a claims handler at the Road Accident Fund in Cape Town. She joined A Batchelor & Associates as a Professional Assistant during November 1998 and became a partner in May 2003. Gerda has been a member of the American Association of Justice since 2013. She specialises in medical negligence and motor vehicle accident claims.
Eric Louw matriculated in 1997. He then studied his LLB at the University of Stellenbosch. After finishing his studies, Eric commenced articles at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (formerly known as HofmeyrHerbsteinGihwala) and was admitted as an attorney in 2006. In July 2006 he joined A Batchelor & Associates in Cape Town as an Associate. He now specialises in litigation. His areas of speciality include Road Accident Fund claims, personal injury, medical negligence unlawful arrest and detention, claims against Metro-Rail and criminal law.
Desiré Smit matriculated in 2000 from Windhoek High School, Windhoek, Namibia, and completed her BComm LLB degree at Stellenbosch University in 2005. After finishing her studies, Desiré started her articles at A Batchelor & Associates in Cape Town in 2006 and was admitted as an attorney in February 2008. She continues to practice as an Associate at A Batchelor & Associates and specializes in Road Accident Fund claims, personal injury claims and matrimonial matters.
Paul Halliday matriculated in 2003. He then studied a BA in Psychology at the University of Cape Town which he completed in 2007. Paul then continued his studies with a post graduate LLB which he completed in 2011. Following the completion of his degree he commenced his articles at Sohn & Wood Attorneys, Cape Town. Paul was then admitted as an attorney in 2014, after which he then joined A Batchelor & Associates as an Associate where his main fields of practice include third party compensation, personal injury and medical negligence.
Jessica Viljoen matriculated from Herschel Girls’ School in 2002. She then commenced her studies at Stellenbosch University, and later completed her LLB degree through the University of South Africa. Jessica started her articles at A Batchelor & Associates in 2014 and was admitted as an attorney in December 2016. She continues to practice as an Associate at A Batchelor & Associates where she specializes in Motor Vehicle Accident Claims, Medical Negligence and other personal injury claims.
